1560 (51′) METALLICA

Boat Review for PowerPlay 51 “Metallica” (Dated Nov 2005)

The 51 design came about for a client who wanted all the features our 56 offered but was restrained by the 15 metre marina berth available. This led Powerplay to develop the 51 sportfish.

While not requiring the high speeds of their US clients want, they settled for the more compact 4 cylinder 230 hp Yanmars which will deliver a top speed of 23 knots and cruise comfortably at 15 knots @ 2400 rpm. Range was a major factor to consider with trips planned for New Caledonia, Fiji and the Louisiades. Standard fuel Tanks were 800L per engine offering a range of 800 miles at conservative speeds. Additional integral tanks where fitted to extend the range to 1,600 miles. (Try that in a 50’ mono). They chose Yanmar not only for their reliability, light weight, and economy but also for their service ability world wide. You will find a Yanmar dealer all over the world.

Designed primarily as a Pacific cruiser for the cruising couple that has the occasional guest and visiting family, secondary as a day boat for over 30 passengers.

Although aimed at private use this vessel is built to Queensland USL survey and Australian standard 4132 as standard. Featuring a spacious comfortable interior, modern elegant lines and superior power catamaran performance.
